Chaplaincy

Chaplain Oliver Conkle

The mission of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Chaplaincy is to provide a ministry of presence, support, and counsel to members of the BCSO and the citizens of Brunswick County. We endeavor to provide spiritual guidance, counseling and comfort in time of crisis. Without attempting to moralize, evangelize, or criticize, we strive to be a particularly close friend to the men and women of this office and the county. We function as a liaison between inmates and family, friends, and ministers. We also serve as a link for communication between people in crisis and their own spiritual advisors.

The chaplain is aware of the fact that the officer’s job is an extremely difficult one, being constantly in the presence of danger and under constant pressure and tension. Because of this, the chaplain strives to create such a relationship with the officers that he/she would feel free to turn to him for counsel at any time.

The chaplain makes every effort to be available to listen to the problems and concerns within the office and to share the grief, sorrows, and the joys, both individually and collectively. The chaplain is available on a 24 hour basis to assist officers with traumatic incidents including homicides, suicides, major traffic accidents, accidental deaths and officer involved shootings.

We will strive to partner with local ministers to faithfully commit to serve our community by being members of the Chaplaincy Program.
